Dr. Geldenhuys graduated from Potchefstroom University, South Africa (now North-West University) in 1999 with a bachelor of Pharmacy degree. He then went on the receive a Doctor of Philosophy in medicinal chemistry/neuroscience (2004) after completing a Master’s degree in medicinal chemistry (2002), both from North-West University. After graduation he did a post-doctoral research at Texas Tech School of Pharmacy. In 2007 he joined as the first faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the newly established College of Pharmacy at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Rootstown, OH. His research is focused on the development of novel neuroprotective compounds to slow the progression of neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease and stroke by focusing on the CISD protein family.
