WV-INBRE Offers Biomedical Research Internships to HSTA Scholars

The WV-INBRE program has always offered summer biomedical research internships to undergraduates attending the primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs) in the state.  These internships are with faculty mentors at West Virginia University and Marshall University.  Over the past 5 years, WV-INBRE has offered from 2 to 8 biomedical research internships to HSTA scholars attending the PUIs during the academic year.  Once again, the program will support 6 HSTA scholars to work in the labs of WV-INBRE funded faculty during the 2013-2014 academic year.  This year Jesse Hall, Jenna Ingram and Kelsi Henline, all of West Liberty University, will be working in the lab of Dr. Joseph Horzempa; Sasha Richmond and Kaitlyn Thompson of Bluefield State College will be working in the lab of Dr. Tesfaye Belay; and Logan Lyda of Shepherd University will be working in the lab of Dr. Qing Wang.

For the first time, WV-INBRE will offer this same opportunity to HSTA scholars attending West Virginia University and Marshall University.  Four internships were offered during the first year of this program and the 4 HSTA scholars attend West Virginia University.  This year's interns are: Katie Rollins who will work with Dr. Julie Brefczynski-Lewis; Jacob Tyo who will work with Dr. Peter Stoilov; Gavin Washington who will work with Dr. Linda Vona-Davis; and Chandra Dunn who will work with Dr. Patrick Callery.  Internships began October 16 2013 and will continue until April 30 2014.
