WV-INBRE Summer Research Program

Program Summary
WV-INBRE is pleased to announce its 2018 Summer Research Program. The program is nine weeks of graduate-level research in the field of biomedical sciences. Interns will conduct mentored research projects at West Virginia University and Marshall University. Participants will receive formal research training while expanding their learning experience through workshops, seminars on current topics, mentoring and use of state-of-the-art core facilities.

General Guidelines and Eligibility
Applications are now requested for participation in the 2018 WV-INBRE Summer Research Program, which will begin May 29th and conclude July 31st, 2018. Participation is open to all students who are enrolled full-time at the institutions participating in the WV-INBRE who will have not graduated by August 2018. Priority will be given to students who are considering careers in biomedical research. Students at WVU and Marshall are not eligible to participate. Students are required to present their research at the WV-INBRE Summer Research Symposium the last week of the program and should note this as they commit to the program. A stipend of $4,500 will be provided to each participant for the nine-week experience. Interns are responsible for securing housing, but the WV-INBRE will assist in the process if needed.

Research Placements
Faculty mentors will provide projects that will introduce students to contemporary research in fields of biomedical science including: cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, cardiovascular disease, neuroscience, toxicology, and reproductive biology. On the application, students will be asked to list the names of four mentors in whose labs they would like to work during the summer program. Students will be matched with one of these four or another mentor of their choice. The Mentors Directory will be available by January 1, 2018.
