Applications are requested for participation in the 2022 Summer Research Internship program for high school science educators sponsored by the WV-INBRE. Participants will have the opportunity to work on a biomedical research project for up to 9 weeks during May 31 through July 26 2022. Based on the high school’s academic calendar, these dates are flexible. Participation is open to high school science educators who teach in the state of West Virginia during the 2021-2022 school year. Up to 5 positions are available for summer 2022 internships. HSTA teachers or teachers from HSTA-affiliated schools may be given preference in the selection process. Applications from women and members of minority groups are especially encouraged. A salary of $9,000 for the full 9 weeks ($1000/week) will be provided to each intern for the 9-week period, and $$$$ will be provided to the mentor’s laboratory for supplies. Research opportunities exist in biomedical labs at West Virginia University, Marshall University, and at WV-INBRE-funded laboratories at partner institutions. For mentors located at WVU and Marshall University, review the Mentors Directory. For Investigators at WV-INBRE-funded partner institutions, review the WV-INBRE Mentors at Partner institutions Directory for High School Science Educators.
All interns will prepare an abstract and present the results of their summer research project at the 2022 Summer Research Symposium as a poster and also possibly as an oral presentation at West Virginia University in Morgantown WV in July 26, 2022.
All materials are due at the WV-INBRE office by the end of the business day, March 15, 2022. Applicants will be notified of their status by April 8, 2022.
